Determine the purpose of your poster. The direction and layout of your band poster depend on its intended purpose. A promotional poster may need information about performance dates or an upcoming record release. An image and name text may be sufficient for a simpler, general fan poster.
Open an image of the band, or an image that represents the band in your photo-editing software. Use it as the background for your poster if there is enough area onto which you can add text. Otherwise, select the important portion of this image--such as band members posing or a logo—and copy and paste it to your clipboard so you can add it to a background.
Choose a background. This can be another related or stock image, preferably with solid-colored areas to which you can clearly add text. Open this image in another window of your photo-editing software.
Paste the image of the band or the representative image onto the background.
Use the text tool to write the band’s name clearly on a solid-colored portion of the background. Include pertinent information, such as performance dates, supporting bands or whatever else you wish to promote, if applicable.
Save the completed poster as an image file such as a .jpg, .gif or .pdf. Take the image to a print shop so they can make it large and glossy. A print shop can also make many copies if you need them. Distribute the image as a digital poster.
