How to Make a Metal Band

Metal is a term describing a genre of music that originated in the United States in the 1970's. Metal music is generally a fast-paced, high-volume and high-energy sound that hinges on performance. Metal bands generally consist of 4 to 5 members, including a guitarist, a bassist, a drummer, vocalists and sometimes miscellaneous members such as keyboardists or second guitarists. Metal bands also pay close attention to image, both musical and physical. Though forming a band is usually a spontaneous process, there are steps that can be taken to form a band if needed.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine what role you will play in the band. Choose your instrument and decide whether or not you will be lead vocalist.

    • 2

Find other band members. This can be done in many ways. First, you can ask friends if they are interested or know someone who is interested in being a member in a metal band. You can hold auditions for possible band member candidates.

    • 3

Select a practice space. Make sure that the area you choose has the voltage to support your equipment and that it is in an area that will not be disturbed by your practice sessions. Set up a practice schedule so that all of your band members can meet regularly.

    • 4

Choose which band members will be the songwriters for your group. The songwriters should begin to write songs, including the parts that the instruments will play, the lyrics and the melody of the songs. Practice the songs as a band.

    • 5

Select and image and a band name. Your image represents how you would like to appear to your future fans and includes hair, makeup, jewelry and wardrobe. Showcase your new band and songs. This can be done by having a party or playing an event.

    • 6

Promote your band. Photo shoots should be done by friends or possibly professional photographers, and media advertising, such as posters and flyers, can boost your metal band's popularity. These advertisements should be handed out at metal venues and concerts, at music stores and other popular gatherings.
