Brainstorm ideas for your poster design. The poster should convey a single, strong message in a focused and aesthetically intriguing manner. Decide if you want to use posed photographs of the cast as the main image, or if you would rather use a more artistic image from the film, such as Lady Macbeth's hands, blood spelling out words or letters, or the witches. Think about details that might entice the poster-viewer into seeing the film. For example, you could put a famous quote from Macbeth such as "Fair is foul and foul is fair" across the bottom of the main image.
Take photographs of the main image you wish to use for your poster. Take several photographs of different characters, scenes, and close-ups. This will allow you to have options when you review the photos later and choose one to use as the main image.
Load the main image onto a software program that allows users to design photographs with text on a page, such as PowerPoint or In design.
Enlarge the photo so it takes up the entire page. Most movie posters have the main image cover the entire page. However, you can add a border to the image if you would rather it not extend to edges.
Add text to the poster. The text should contrast with its background so it can be read easily. For example, if you use a dark image of Macbeth with the dagger you can contrast against the dark image with red or white text. Use a font that conveys the themes in the film. For example, since Macbeth is dark and suspenseful you could use Futura font, which is clear and cryptic. The poster's text should include the movie title, the actors' and director's names, and the movie's website. It should also include the basic credits in smaller text at the bottom of the poster. Add a quote or a tag line if it adds to the overall effect of the poster. Most movie posters do not have the venue on them, but if this is a student version playing at one place, you should consider including this information.
Print the poster in a print shop that has large poster-printing capabilities, such as Kinko's or FedEx. Standard movie poster size is 27 by 40 inches, but you can also print larger or smaller posters to hang in different locations.
