Beauregard was born and raised in Whitehaven, a community just outside of Memphis, Tennessee. He began his career in the late 1980s as a DJ, performing at local clubs and parties. In 1991, he met Juicy J, and the two formed the rap duo The Serial Killers. The duo released two albums, Smoked Out, Loced Out (1992) and Underground Vol. 1: Don't Gimme No Slack (1993), before changing their name to Three 6 Mafia.
Three 6 Mafia released their debut album, Mystic Stylez, in 1995. The album was a critical and commercial success, and it helped to establish the group as one of the leading acts in the Memphis rap scene.
