One of the closest country bands to the town of DuBois is the Shelby Nestler and the Make Mine Country Band. They are from the town of Mifflintown, Pennsylvania, which is roughly 45 miles east of DuBois. The band's biggest influences are country artists who were popular 30 or more years ago including Johnny Cash and Hank Williams, which is apparent in their music. Shelby and his band have a classic country style combined with variations of hard rock and polka sounds.
Hicktown is from Greencastle, Pennsylvania, which is roughly 55 miles from Dubois. For almost 15 years, the band has opened for well-known artists such as The Warren Brothers and Andy Griggs and has performed all throughout the United States and Europe. The five-piece country/rock band performs an eclectic mix of covers including Toby Keith, Journey and Lynard Skynard as well as original songs. They most commonly perform for corporate events, weddings and private parties.
Just over the Pennsylvania border is Cleveland, Ohio, where Redneck Incorporated is from. The band specializes in covering a wide variety of country and classic rock bands including Kenny Chesney, Brook N' Dunn and Charlie Daniels Band. They are comprised of six musicians including a keyboardist, fiddler, three male singers and one female singer. The wide assortment of instruments and vocals allow them to cover a wide variety of bands and sounds.
Marc Silver and the Stone Throwers are from Philadelphia, which is roughly 120 miles from DuBois. Though classified as country, western and folk, the Marc Silver and the Stone Throwers mainly focus on traditional bluegrass style music with a steel guitar, mandolin and banjo player. The southern style instruments are blended with the harmonies of the three singers. Their biggest influences include Bluegrass greats such as Doc Watson and Bill Monroe as well as Indie favorites like Wilco and Iron and Wine. Though they are over 100 miles from DuBois, Marc Silver and the Stone Throwers will travel up to a 500-mile radius for a gig.
