Instructions

Create a short text advertisement for the girls in your group. Include things such as desired age range, vocal style and if they should have previous singing experience or the ability to read music. Include a phone number or email for the girls to reply to.

    • 2

Submit your advertisement to your local newspaper and local musician exchanges. For your local newspaper submit it as a "Gig" in the employment section as per your newspapers standards. Musician exchanges such as Musolist and Craigslist Gigs section allow you to reach local artists (see Resources). Also place copies of your advertisement in local music stores.

Review your applicants and set up auditions. Select qualified applicants and respond by email or phone to schedule auditions. You may hold auditions in your home or a neutral location such as a rehearsal space. Renting a rehearsal space for several hours to hold auditions may be costly, but its sends a professional message. Give the girls a choice of three songs to sing at their audition. Select popular well-known songs that reflect the genre of your singing group and are available on karaoke disks.

    • 4

Hold auditions and record each singer with a portable tape or voice recorder. Have the girls give their name, age and the name of the song they are auditioning with. Play the karaoke version of the song they are auditioning on a portable CD player. Write notes about their performance including how well they sing but also personality, style and energy.

    • 5

Review the audition tapes and select singers for the second round of auditions. Give yourself a variety of girls to choose from and then contact the singers and schedule as second round of auditions. The second round may be held in your home if you prefer.

    • 6

At the second audition, pair the singers up to see how well they sing in groups. Consider things such as if they are comfortable sharing songs with others, if they are polite and agreeable and how well they harmonize. Record these notes as well. From these final auditions select your girls.
