How to Make a Cheap Infomercial

An infomercial is a commercial shot to look more like a television program. An infomercial can last anywhere from 15 minutes to a couple of hours, with typical infomercials running for 60 minutes. Infomercials are often shot with live audiences and scripted to look as if everything were happening naturally. Making a cheap infomercial isn't difficult. With minimal equipment and the space to film, you can make your own infomercial to help sell your products.

Script your infomercial. Having everything written down and rehearsed before you shoot will save a lot of time and expense when you begin shooting your infomercial. Script the actions and dialogue of the host of your infomercial and anyone in the participating audience who will play a major role.

Find a suitable location to shoot your infomercial. Consider renting a church basement or space at a local recreation center. You may even be able to rent a conference room at a hotel. Be sure the area you rent can hold a small audience, then put your audience together. Use as many relatives and friends as you can; anyone you don't have to pay will save you money.

Get the best-quality cheap digital recorder you can get away with. Unless you already own expensive video recording and editing equipment, you will save money by using a simple handheld digital recorder in the $300 to $500 range. Unless your studio is well-lit, you will need lighting. Keep it as simple as you can. A couple of studio-quality lights will do.

Shoot the infomercial in one day. Use two cameramen if you can afford it, which will minimize the chance of losing any good footage. The object will be to shoot as quickly as possible to minimize the cost of the studio rental and any crew members or actors that you are paying.

Use video-editing software to finish your infomercial. Cyberlink PoerDirector, Corel VideoStudio, Magix Movie Edit Pro and PowerProducer are a few choices. The prices and features vary throughout these programs, but all of them will allow you to cut, splice and add flashy transitions to your infomercial.
