How to Make a Card Disapear

Magicians come in all forms and skill levels, from those who can make the Statue of Liberty disappear, to those who wish to amuse family and friends with common, simple tricks. Most magic involves an illusion, or making the audience think they see an object appear or disappear. Magic can be achieved by "palming" or placing an item out of sight faster than an audience can observe the motion. Many magic tricks, including disappearing object tricks, involve this slight of hand.

Instructions

  1. Make a Playing Card Disappear

    • 1

Hold a single playing card facing out toward your audience. The card should rest on your index and middle fingers, secured by your thumb on the front of the card.

    • 2

Make a fist and bring your index and pinky fingers to the sides of the card. The middle fingers should be bent behind the card, with the thumb pressing against them.

    • 3

Press the edges of the card between the knuckles of your index to middle finger and pink to ring finger, bending the card.

    • 4

Remove your thumb from the card.

    • 5

Open your hand, keeping your fingers together so that the card flips from your palm to the back of your hand. It should still be secured between your knuckles on the opposite side.

    • 6

Practice this trick slowly, many times before showing it to a practice audience, such as a friend or family member.
