How to Troubleshoot Netflix Instant Watch

Netflix has become a popular method of watching movies at home thanks to the growing popularity of Netflix-enabled video devices. The “Instant View” feature allows subscribers to select and view movies at their convenience. You can pause playback or Netflix will remember where you ended your viewing of a movie and resume playback from that point the next time you log in. With all the sophistication of modern streaming video technology, problems with viewing your selection can occur. Follow these steps to resolve issues with Netflix Instant View.

      Confirm your account is active and includes Instant View at Netflix.com. Unlimited plans all include the Instant View feature. Limited plans allow only two hours per month and will not work with Netflix-enabled video devices.

      Visit Netflix.com to activate your Netflix-enabled device. Select models of TVs, gaming systems and Blu-Ray disc players are now available with Netflix. To access Netflix Instant view, you must enter the activation code provided by the device at Netflix.com.

      Make sure your Internet connection meets the minimum requirements for Netflix Instant View. You must have a minimum download speed of 1.5 megabits per second. Even if your Internet provider promises this speed, a variety of factors could be causing a network slow down. Confirm your download speed by going to Speedtest.net. The faster your Internet connection, the more reliably Netflix Instant view will perform.

      Reduce the load on your Internet connection by halting other bandwidth consumption. Online gaming, music or video streaming, or other online file sharing applications can slow the download of your Instant View movie. If you are accessing the Internet using a wireless connection, make sure you have adequate signal strength from your wireless access point.

      Confirm your computer meets the minimum specifications for Instant View. If using a computer to view Netflix Instant View, you need a system running Windows XP with Service Pack 2, Vista or Windows 7. Your CPU speed must be at least 1.2 gigahertz with 512 megabytes of memory. You will need to run Internet Explorer 6.0 or Firefox 2 browsers. Mac computers need to be using Intel-based CPUs and OS 10.4.8 or later with 1 gigabyte of memory. Safari version 3 or Firefox version 2 are the minimum browser versions. The best practice would be to download the latest versions of Netflix-compatible Internet browsers.

      Download and install the latest versions of your audio, video and network adapter drivers. Video display or audio glitches can occur if you have outdated or incorrectly functioning hardware device drivers.
