Milwaukee, Wisconsin Television Stations

Nine television stations are licensed and operated in Milwaukee, and coverage by other stations outside Milwaukee overlaps the area. The Milwaukee stations include network affiliates and independent and public stations. Milwaukee was the 35th-largest television market in the country in 2009, with TVs in 905,350 homes, according to the Nielsen ratings service.
  1. Major Network Affiliates

    • Four Milwaukee TV stations are affiliates of the four largest networks. The NBC affiliate is Today's TMJ4, broadcast on Channel 4. WITI carries the Fox Network on Channel 6. The ABC station is WISN, on Channel 12. The CBS network carrier is WDJT, on Channel 58. Each station has its own news show that competes in covering developments in the greater Milwaukee area. The four stations' signals cover most of southeastern Wisconsin and part of northern Illinois.

    Public TV

    • WMVS, on Channel 10, airs programming from the PBS network and identifies itself as MPTV, for Milwaukee Public Televison. The station's signal reaches most of southeastern Wisconsin. Its annual May fundraiser dates back to 1969. Local programming on WMVS includes shows such as "Outdoor Wisconsin," "Black Nouveau," "Interchange," "I Remember" and the "4th Street Forum." WMVS began broadcasting in 1957. Its website says more than 1 million viewers watch MPTV each week. The station received eight nominations for the 2009-2010 Chicago/Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Emmy Awards.

    Others

    • Four Milwaukee TV stations are independents or part of smaller networks. WVCY is a Christian television station that broadcasts on Channel 30. It holds a commercial license but does not air advertising. It is funded through donations to the station and to the VCY America Radio network. WVTV, on Channel 18, is a CW Television Network affiliate. Its programming includes "The 700 Club," "The Andy Griffith Show," reruns of other sitcoms and an occasional movie. WCVG, on Channel 24, is affiliated with MyNetworkTV and features many old sitcoms. WMLW, on Channel 41, is an independent station whose programming is heavy on sports events such as Big East Conference and Marquette University games.
