Why did katniss attack the careers in hunger games?

Katniss Everdeen did not directly attack the Careers (Marvel, Glimmer, Clove, and Cato) during the 74th Hunger Games in the book "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins. There were conflicts and confrontations between Katniss and the Careers throughout the story, but it wasn't Katniss who initiated aggressive attacks against them.
