How to Add Subtitles to a DVD-R

With the advent of downloadable content, the desire to add your own sub-titles to a movie has grown. This is largely due to the majority of movies being in English, thanks to the mainstream movie industries of the United States and the United Kingdom. Adding your own sub-titles in a language of your choice can be easily done, and can be done through the use of various types of subtitle-creating and adding software.

Instructions

    • 1

Download and install the 'Subtitle Workshop' software and use it to create your subtitles, if you do not already have the files.

    • 2

Download and install the 'Vobsub' software and select 'VobSub for VirtualDub', 'TextSub for VirtualDub and AviSynth' in the plugins options, and set the Virtualdubmod folder (where your end file will be saved).

    • 3

Open the movie file in VirtualDubMod and click on 'video' and then 'filters' and add your subtitle text file.

    • 4

Change the video settings to 'full processing' and the video compression to either 'Divx' or 'Xvid'. Save it as a new AVI file by clicking on 'save' and then selecting 'AVI'.
