How to Insert SRT Format Subtitles

SRT (Sub-Rip) files provide text-based subtitles for videos that use the Audio/Video Interleaved (AVI) file format. Windows Media Player does not include built-in support for SRT files. You can install an add-on called DirectVobSub to get SRT file support in Windows Media Player. DirectVobSub is available on the Free-Codecs website.

Instructions

    • 1

Download DirectVobSub from Free-Codecs.com. If you are using Windows 7, download the 64-bit version of DirectVobSub.

    • 2

Right-click the downloaded ZIP file and click "Extract All."

    • 3

Double-click the executable setup file inside the extracted folder and follow the on-screen instructions to install DirectVobSub.

    • 4

Copy the SRT file into the AVI video folder.

    • 5

Change the name of the SRT file to the name of the AVI file.

    • 6

Open the video in Windows Media Player by double-clicking the AVI file.

    • 7

      Click the "Pause" button.

    • 8

Press the Ctrl, Shift and C keys together to insert SRT subtitles into the video.

    • 9

Press the "Play" button to play the video.
