The film follows the story of an undocumented Latino single mother, Lupe Hernandez, played by Carmen Ejogo. Living in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, Lupe finds herself entangled in a dangerous situation when her son Tito, played by Antonio Jaramillo, is drawn into gang activity.
Due to her illegal status, Lupe is hesitant to seek help from law enforcement officials but she also realizes that if she waits for an officer who speaks Spanish it might be too late. This dilemma between protecting her son from gang affiliation and fearing deportation if she involves the authorities puts Lupe in a state of conflict and desperation.
Throughout the film, Lupe explores different avenues to protect her son, all while facing the limitations caused by her undocumented status. As Lupe grapples with these challenges, she must confront difficult truths, personal sacrifice, and her unyielding love for her family.
Overall, "La Loba" tackles themes of motherhood, sacrifice, love, and the harsh realities facing undocumented immigrants seeking safety and dignity for their families.
