How to Edit a Video Speed

You need to make a video project and need to edit your video clip speeds. Editing the clips can be a cost-effective option over paying a professional editor. Editing video speeds is not as hard as it sounds and can be accomplished with a little practice.

  • Movie maker program (Adobe Premiere Pro)
  • Video camera/DVD player
  • RCA cables
  • S-video cable (optional)

Instructions

      Open up the movie maker program. A pop-up will appear. Click "Yes" to create a new project. Another pop-up will appear.

      Type in a name for your project. Select the folder where you will save your project to. The workspace will have a file bin window, TV viewing screen and timeline. The file bin is where all your imported files will be located. The TV screen shows you what is playing in your timeline. The timeline is where you edit your video and video speed.

      Connect RCA cables from the video camera or DVD "Out" ports and connect them to the computer "In" ports. Yellow cable is for video. Red and white cables are for audio.

      Import your video into the movie maker program. Click the "File" tab and select "Capture." This will record your video in the program.

      Click the "Stop" button (a red square) in the movie maker program to stop recording.

      Select your new recording in the "File Bin" window. Click on your video and drag it to the timeline.

      Edit the video using your "Razor" tool. Click on the "Razor" tool and click on your video to cut the video and edit out any unwanted footage. Create a start point by clicking the start of the unwanted footage. Create an end point by clicking the end of the unwanted footage. If you do not need to omit any footage, skip this step.

      Click on your video in the timeline. Click on the "Clip" tab and select "Speed/Duration." A pop-up will appear. Type your desired speed percentage. A 100 percent speed moves at a normal speed. Adjust the speed to fit your needs.

      Adjust duration. Changing speed will also change the duration of your video. When you have changed speed, type in the original duration of your video. Click "OK" when you have finished. Repeat the step for other videos.

      Render your video. Rendering is to make your edited movie seamless. Click the "Sequence" tab and select "Render Entire Work Area."

      Save the file.

      Export the video. Click the "File" tab and select "Export." Select "Media." A pop-up will appear. Choose media type (For example, avi, mpeg, wma or another of your choice). Make sure the export boxes are checked for "Audio" and "Video." Click the "Export" tab when you are finished making your selections. Exporting video will create a completely edited video as a single video file. This will create a VIDEO_TS folder.
