Open the Sharp Video Editor to automatically start a new project. A "Preview Monitor" appears on the left side of the screen, with editing options and file access on the right side of the screen.
Click on the "Import" icon at the top of the program. Choose the video files you want to import using the pop-up explorer window. Press the "OK" button and the video files will load with small thumbnails on the right side of the screen. The software accepts most video formats including AVI, MPEG and MOV.
Use the "Capture" to upload footage from a Firewire-connected camcorder. When a pop-up screen appears, choose your device and then click on the "Record" icon to capture footage. Click "Stop" to stop the capture and then label the footage you just added.
Drag and drop the video thumbnails down into the "Timeline" window to add them to the project. Use the small navigation arrow to scroll through the time on the video. A live screenshot preview will appear in the "Preview Monitor" above.
Use the trim tools just below the "Preview Monitor" to cut off footage from the start and end of a clip. Click and drag to the point you want to start or finish at. Use the preview scene for the precise start and finish point of the clip.
Press the "Play" icon to watch a preview of the trimmed clips. Make any adjustments and repeat the process for the rest of the clips you want to add to the movie project.
Click on the "Effects" tab at the top of the screen. Browse through "Transitions," "Effects" or "Titles" to add to the project. When you choose one, drag and drop it over the top of the video where you want to add it. Wait a moment for the software to render the clip and see a preview in the monitor.
Click on the "Audio" icon on the right-hand corner of the screen to add music, voice-overs or sound effects to the project. There are two audio tracks under the video tracks that you can drag and drop audio onto.
Click on the "Finish" icon when you are ready to output your movie. Choose what type of output you want to use. There are options for DVDs, Web-enabled videos or video formats made specifically for cell phones and other mobile device. Click on the "Render" icon, choose a name and press "OK."
