Open Camtasia Studio by double clicking on the icon on your desktop or in your program files.
Move your mouse cursor to the "Record the Screen" button and click.
Click on the "Full Screen" button to record video on your entire computer screen or click on the "Custom" button and then the "Select" button to record video only on a section of a computer screen.
Drag the cursor around the area you want to record and click the "Record" button. Navigate your computer as usual to record any websites, video, music or photos.
Click the "Esc" button on your computer when you are finished recording and save your file.
Open your video in Camtasia Studio by clicking "File" and "Import" and select your saved video. You should now see the video in the area called the "Clip Bin."
Drag the video clips you wish to edit to the timeline at the bottom of the screen.
Cut out portions of the clips you do not want by highlighting specific areas of the timeline with your cursor and clicking on the scissors icon above the timeline. Or use the split icon above the timeline to split clips. You can also drag around clips to be placed in the order of your preference.
Add effects to the video by dragging any of the effect icons such as "Zoom-n-Pan" in the upper left hand corner of the screen to the area of the timeline where you want the effect to appear.
Press play on the video player in the upper right hand corner of the screen or press play above the timeline to watch your edited video. Make any additional edits before producing.
Click on the "Produce Video As" button.
Select a preset type of production such as cd, DVD or web or choose to create a custom production which will allow you to produce files such as .MOV or .AVI.
Name your project and specify where you would like it to be saved on your computer when the prompt appears. Choose the "Next" button and then the "Finish" button to render the project.
Locate the file on your computer and watch!
