Building an Electric Projector Screen

Projectors have come down in price enough in recent years, making it easier for the average home owner to enter the world of home theater systems. You cannot have a projector without having something to project it on, namely, a projector screen. While you can get a projector screen at any electronics store, you may want to build one yourself. This will be much cheaper than buying one and you will have something homemade to proudly place in your viewing room.

Things You'll Need

  • One roll of 53 inch white seamless paper
  • Two pieces of 1-by-4, 55 1/4 inches
  • Two pieces of 1-by-4, 93 1/2 inches
  • Four flat "L" brackets
  • Screwdriver
  • 1/2 inch screws
  • Black Velveteen, 3 yards
  • Miter box
  • Saw
  • Scissors
  • Staple Gun

Instructions

      Cut both ends of all four pieces of 1-by-4 into 45 degree angles using the miter box and saw.

      Cut the velveteen into two 6 1/2 inch wide strips which are 58 inches and two 6 1/2 inch strips which are 96 inch pieces.

      Place the longer strips of wood on the longer strips of fabric and the shorter pieces of wood on the shorter pieces of fabric. Pull the fabric around the pieces of wood till all of the edges are covered. Staple the fabric to the wood.

      Place the fabric covered wood in a rectangle with the longer pieces on the top and bottom and the shorter pieces on the sides. Place the "L" brackets in each corner and screw the rectangle together by placing driving screws into the wood through the holes in the "L" bracket.

      Roll the paper over the frame. Staple the paper to the frame every 8 to 9 inches. Make sure you are working slowly and carefully to avoid wrinkles in the paper.
