Drift Wood Crafts

If you've ever strolled down the beach and been fascinated by the intricately shaped pieces of wood that wash up on shore, you're not alone. These pieces of nature have been inspiring artists for generations. Driftwood is a wonderful median to create a wide variety of craft art. You can use one piece or many. Simply collect your driftwood and let creativity take over. The only rule of thumb generally accepted among crafters is to not alter the shape of the wood too much. Let the unique shape of the wood be the star of your craft.
  1. Jewelry Making With Driftwood

    • Use small pieces of driftwood to make jewelry. Burn a small hole through a piece of driftwood and put a string through it to make a necklace. Take many small pieces and make a bracelet. Burn in texture, sand or paint as desired.

    Animals With Driftwood

    • Many pieces of driftwood resemble snakes, fish, antlers and other animal features. Use your imagination and the unique qualities of your piece to create just about any animal. If you want to, add colors and texture to the piece to even further let it resemble an animal. You can glue on eyes and hair or fur as desired.

    Folk Art With Driftwood

    • Driftwood is useful for creating pieces of folk art. Driftwood can be shaped into symbols, people with exaggerated features or deities. Customize the piece with added texture, colors and other pieces of driftwood.

    Flowers and Plants with Driftwood

    • Driftwood can be used to make flowers and plants. Put a uniquely shaped piece of driftwood in a pot with dirt and it's a stand alone flower all by itself. Use driftwood to make trees with intricately designed trunks and branches, vines and whatever else you can imagine.
