Rewind your VHS tapes before you store them.
Place the VHS tape in a protective case. You can use cardboard cases or plastic cases that close and lock. Locking plastic cases will protect the tape better than cardboard ones. Plastic cases are designed to protect the tape that is rewound on the spool from light and moisture. Be sure to mark on the case the title of the tape inside.
Put the VHS tape in a protective plastic bag. Press on the bag to remove all the air, then seal the bag. Some VHS protection bags come with a sealing strip. If yours does not have the sealing strip, seal the bag with duct tape, which is designed to withstand moisture and heat.
Place the tape gently into a cardboard storage box with other tapes. Stack them neatly to avoid damaging them when you move the box. If you do not have enough tapes to fill the entire box, fill in the empty spaces with packing material such as Styrofoam peanuts or air pillows.
Place a folded black garbage bag on top of all of the videos to further protect them from light and moisture.
Seal the box with duct tape and put it in a cool dry place for permanent storage.
