With so many different film schools now available, it’s not easy to know which ones to choose. The best schools will offer a credible degree or diploma. Doing some research beforehand and asking questions will help you to decide. You may want to ask if the school is affiliated with a major university and how long it has been in business. Asking if the film school can support its program with the right credentials will also give you some idea how professional and successful they are.
  1. Tisch School of the Arts-New York University (NYU)

    • Film programs are offered through the university’s Maurice Kanbar Institute of Film and Television. Classes offered cover production, animation, editing, scriptwriting, film criticism, directing, audio production, acting and film history. These are available to undergraduate students majoring in film and television. As a graduate, you may then apply for an MFA in filmmaking, or a combined MFA (Master of Fine Arts) and MBA (Masters in Business Administration) in producing. On the MFA program you get a chance to create a number of movies. You also get practice with all other aspects of crew work, and using cameras. The university is located on Washington Square.

    USC School of Cinematic Arts-University of Southern California L.A.

    • USC School of Cinematic Arts is part of the University of Southern California in L.A. This was the first film school in the United States and was founded in 1929. Undergraduate degree programs are available for the production of film and television and are awarded as a BA (Bachelor of Arts) or BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts). Degree programs for undergraduates are not available in producing but are open to graduates and lead to an MFA.

    The National Film and Television School (NFTS)

    • The NFTS is located 25 miles west of London in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, England. The MA courses are validated by the Royal College of Art. The school has state-of-the-art technology and two film stages, a television studio and production facilities. Its tutors are the most accomplished in the industry and offer one-to-one help to students. You get to make a lot of films and television programs as part of the study program. They will also help you once you have finished the course by placing you on a program called Bridges to the Industry. This will help you establish yourself with production companies and broadcasters. The school has been in business for 37 years. It offers a diploma or an MA degree and its courses are of the highest standard in vocational education, so you can be assured your degree will be highly respected in the industry.
