Online Magic Schools

Learning how to perform magic tricks can take many years. Not only do you need to learn how the tricks work, but there is also a performance aspect that can be critical to making the illusion work. It can be expensive and time consuming to try and learn magic from a professional. One way to learn magic at your own pace is through online magic schools, which will also give you access to the resources you need.
  1. Free Magic School

    • Free Magic School (freemagicschool.com) is run by magician Cartess Ross and offers beginners a way to start learning magic without spending any money on tuition. Free Magic School claims on its website that it can have you performing your first trick within 15 minutes of signing up. To give you an idea of the teaching process, the school offers an introductory video on its homepage and an additional sample video on the contact page. Online-class sizes are limited.

    The Magic School

    • The Magic School (themagicschool.com) is an online series of magic instructional courses. Run by professional magician Peter Jakobsen, it's presented in a easy-to-use blog format. You can download entries to review at your own pace, or you can browse through the entries that Jakobsen and others have made on the site. One feature that sets The Magic School apart from other online magic schools is that it takes you through the process of honing your magic skills and then getting paid for your performances.

    Good Tricks

    • Good Tricks (goodtricks.net) is a free magic-resource site that features links to instructional videos and resources for street magic, card tricks and basic magic tricks designed to help students get started. In the videos, professional magicians instruct viewers on not only on how the tricks are done but how to add showmanship into the presentation to make it appealing to an audience. The site has a comprehensive library of magic-trick links as well.
