The Gem Theatre also is owned by Gabel Theatres. The Gem was opened in 1950 on Thanksgiving weekend. The former owners of the Acme Theatre opened Gem and had a gala to celebrate the opening. The theater closed for renovation in 2002, and reopened in June 2003 with more seats and features.
Gabel Theatres, the owners of Acme and Gem, also owns Grand Theatre in Lander, Wyoming, which is 13 miles away from Riverton. Gabel Theatres, Inc hosts a film festival every year, featuring films shown at their theaters.
The theaters in Riverton, Wyoming show the newest releases, but not all releases are shown due to the theaters' small size. Residents of Riverton can contact the individual theaters to verify which movies are being shown. The movie theaters also display the films that are showing in the front of the building.
