How to Make Your Own Green Screen Music Video Machine

You can construct a green screen to make music videos without breaking the bank. You use a keying program to edit images shot with your video camera. The program eliminates the green-screen background; you can then substitute any other background. This super-imposes the people in the shot over a different background. Green screens are widely used in film production. However, if they are not done well, the results can look amateurish.

Instructions

    • 1

Set up the green screen. It can be nothing more than a bright green cloth or green painted wall. For the best results, buy a screen. Attach the screen to a stand. Smooth out any wrinkles.

    • 2

Light the green screen evenly. Use two or more lights. This will eliminate shadows and make keying the video easier.

    • 3

Set up the camera on a tripod so that the edges of the green screen are not in the frame. Turn on the camera.

    • 4

Connect a video output cable to the camera. The type of cable will vary by camera model; HDMI, USB and RCA are the most common.

    • 5

Plug the other end of the video cable into the computer's "Video in" port.

    • 6

Open the keying software. There are dozens of keying software packages, including FXHome, GreenScreen Wizard, 123 Video Magic and Adobe After Effects.

    • 7

View your images on the computer. Key the green screen to make the background disappear. Add a background, such as a photo of Paris or a jungle. Play some music; your music video machine is ready.
