Recruit people to participate in and help create your dance video. This includes the lead dancers and background dancers if necessary as well as anyone you need helping behind the scenes, such as a cameraman.
Choreograph your dance ahead of time. The best dance videos contain pre-planned dance moves with very little free styling. If you do plan to showcase freestyle dance moves in your dance video, factor in a specific spot for freestyling into the choreographed dance.
Practice your dance until you can perform it perfectly. This will help avoid having to perform several takes of the dance once the camera is rolling.
Purchase or make costumes for the people in the dance video. The costumes should correlate with the overall vibe of the dance video. For example, if you are making a hip-hop dance video it would be good to include hats, sneakers and baggy denim in the dancer's wardrobe. If you were making a ballet dance video, it would be best to include ballet-style costumes such as leotards and tutus.
Perform and record your dance, either by propping the camera somewhere suitable, by using a tripod, or by having a person operate it. Do this for each scene of your video.
Use editing software if you wish to have multiple scenes in your dance video. For videos that are merely a single scene, without any changes in locations or angles, you will not need to edit anything. However, editing programs can also allow you to play your music track over the video or if you wish to add any voice-overs. During the editing process you can also add a title and credits to your video.
