What is wicked about?

Wicked: The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman. It is based on the 1995 novel of the same name by Gregory Maguire, a parallel novel to L. Frank Baum's 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

Set in the fictional Land of Oz, Wicked tells the story of two witches: Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda, the Good Witch of the North. The story follows their complex relationship as they struggle with their own identities, their friendship, and their choices, as well as their rivalry for the love of the same man.

The musical explores the themes of good vs. evil, the nature of friendship, and the power of love. It also offers a different perspective on the characters from the original novel, showing that there is more to them than meets the eye.

Wicked has been praised for its beautiful music, its compelling story, and its complex characters. It has won numerous awards, including three Tony Awards, six Drama Desk Awards, and a Grammy Award. The musical has also been adapted into a novel and a film.
