Instructions

    • 1

Wear clothing that has pockets that can be used to hold parts of tricks or hide disappearing items until they can be disposed of, no matter what kind of magic you are performing. Certain tricks might require specific types of clothing, such as the floating card trick, which requires the magician to wear a button-down shirt.

Put together a magician costume of formal attire if you are putting on a traditional magic show. For men and boys, this means wearing black dress pants and white dress shirts with black bow ties. They also can wear black tuxedo jackets or black vests. Black shoes and socks finish the costume. Women and girls can wear white blouses with black, knee-length skirts or dress pants. Complete the outfit with black suit jackets, nude-colored pantyhose and black heels.

Use clothing that is fun and weather-appropriate if you are putting on a street performance. Make sure to wear sunscreen and a hat to protect your skin on sunny days. Wear clothing that is brightly colored or don an insane collection of items to attract and hold the attention of the crowd.

Wear dark, sedate clothing if you are putting on a shock magician performance.

    • 5

Bring out your inner child if you are performing a magic show for children. Let your imagination go wild and dress up as a clown or another funny and familiar character to make the kids laugh before you even start the performance. Wear clothing that has bright colors and patterns, and include silly accessories, such as a long, flowing scarf or a flower that squirts water. Use the items you are wearing to perform tricks during your performance.

Wear your regular clothing to perform close-up or one-on-one magic. This will help create the illusion that you are an ordinary person who can do amazing things.
