How to Put a Needle Through a Balloon

Everyone knows that sticking a needle or pin into a balloon will cause it to pop. However, there are two easy ways to pierce a balloon without popping it at all. All you need to pull off this trick are a balloon and a few simple household items, as well as a little time to prepare your balloon without being seen. Once you've readied your balloon, you can astonish your friends with a surprising illusion.

Things You'll Need

  • Balloon
  • Mineral oil, olive oil or petroleum jelly
  • Long needle
  • Clear tape

Instructions

  1. Method One

      Inflate your balloon and tie off the end.

      Dip your needle in mineral oil, olive oil or petroleum jelly and smear the lubricant along its entire length.

      Insert the needle carefully into the balloon at the end opposite the opening, where the surface is thickest. You will see the needle pass through the balloon. You even can push it out through the other end, near the tie.

    Method Two

      Place a small strip of tape on the side of the balloon.

      Push your needle through the strip of tape and the side of the balloon.

      Remove the needle. The tape should hold the material of the balloon together, preventing it from popping.
