How to Hold a Piercing Needle

Body piercing has exploded in popularity in recent years as both a profession and a personal interest. Piercing a body part requires precision and steady hands, as well as sound anatomical knowledge. Holding the piercing needle correctly is one of the most important aspects of body piercing. A grip that is weak or unbalanced will inflict unnecessary pain and injury to the piercing site.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on the latex gloves. The gloves are necessary to keep the area sanitary and prevent infection. They will also improve your grip on the needle.

    • 2

Determine the halfway spot of the piercing needle. This is where you should grip it.

    • 3

Place the needle between your thumb and forefinger. The blunt end should be resting against your palm.

    • 4

Angle the needle so that the sharp end is facing slightly downward in alignment with your forefinger.

    • 5

Turn the wrist, rather than the fingers, to adjust the angle for the piercing site. Make sure your grip is firm and the needle does not slide around between your fingers.
