Instructions

Pick up an egg with a metal spatula. Practice rolling the egg back and forth on the spatula. Flick your wrist lightly to toss the egg in the air. When you catch the egg, you want to imagine your wrist falling at the same rate as the egg. If you hold your spatula flat, the egg will break. Absorb the shock by letting the spatula fall slightly as soon as the egg touches its surface. Practice this until you can toss the egg above your head and catch it without cracking the shell.

Toss the egg towards your chest. Use your other hand to open your chest pocket. Position your body below the egg and catch it in your chest pocket. In the beginning, do not throw the egg higher than your head. It is easier to learn this trick if you practice with short tosses. Practice this until you can repeatedly toss and catch the egg without dropping it.

Combine steps one and two for the first part of the trick. To end the trick, you want to crack the egg. Toss the egg into the air with the spatula. While the egg is in the air, flip the spatula so that the sharp edge is pointed towards the ceiling. Catch the egg on the sharp edge. Flick the spatula upwards to meet the egg at the point of impact. This motion will help create a clean crack in the shell. If done correctly, the egg will crack open along the spatula and hang on the edge. The yoke will pour slowly over the spatula and onto the pan. This step is the most difficult part of the Teppanyaki egg trick. Practice until you can crack the egg without it bouncing off the spatula.
