In mushroom hill zone on sonic 3 and knuckles what are you supposed to do inside the room?

The room in Mushroom Hill Zone in Sonic 3 & Knuckles contains a hidden passage. Players must jump at one of the walls behind the tree to move it, revealing a path that takes Sonic to a bonus stage inside another room filled with rings, springs, monitors, and enemies which will give you points depending on what all you collect within those rings.
