1. Check the cruise control switch. Make sure that the switch is turned on and that the cruise control indicator light is illuminated. If the light is not on, the cruise control will not work.
2. Check the brake pedal switch. Make sure that the brake pedal switch is working properly. If the switch is not working, the cruise control will not be able to engage.
3. Check the accelerator pedal sensor. Make sure that the accelerator pedal sensor is working properly. If the sensor is not working, the cruise control will not be able to maintain the set speed.
4. Check the vacuum lines. Make sure that the vacuum lines are not leaking. If the vacuum lines are leaking, the cruise control will not be able to function properly.
5. Check the cruise control module. If all of the above components are working properly, then the problem may be with the cruise control module. The module may need to be replaced.
To replace the cruise control switch on a 2001 Escape, you will need to:
1. Remove the steering wheel trim cover.
2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the cruise control switch.
3. Remove the two screws that hold the cruise control switch in place.
4. Remove the old cruise control switch and install the new switch.
5. Secure the new switch with the two screws.
6. Reconnect the electrical connector.
7. Reinstall the steering wheel trim cover.
