Who named eau Claire?

The city of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, was named by Jacques Vieau, a French-Canadian fur trader, in the late 18th century.

He named it after the clear waters of the Eau Claire River, which flows through the city. "Eau Claire" is French for "clear water."
