What does chonin mean in Naruto?

In the Naruto universe, chōnin (中忍, literally meaning: middle ninja) are the second-highest rank ninja, above genin and below jōnin. Chūnin are typically between 13 and 25 years old and have been ninja for at least three years. They have a wide range of skills and abilities, including the ability to use two jutsu at once and to fight in a team. Chūnin are also often responsible for leading and training other ninja, such as genin and academy students.
