Contemporary Dance Summer Classes in Kent, Washington

Contemporary dance is an expression of body and music together as one. It is defined by its fluid style and natural progression from one movement to the next.   1. Allegro Performing Arts Academy

    • In 2009, Allegro Performing Arts Academy was voted the Best Dance Studio in Western Washington by Seattle's Evening Magazine. It was also named one of the Top 50 Dance Studios of 2009 by the Federation of Dance Competitions. Operating in Kent since 1996 under the leadership of founder Tonya Goodwillie, Allegro offers lyrical dance classes as a part of its summer session for students at the junior level (8 to 12 years old) as well as the senior level (13 years and up). These classes combine ballet and jazz dance styles with fluid transitional movements and breathing.

    British Dancing Academy

    • British Dancing Academy has been in the Kent area since 1972. The school follows the guidelines of the Royal Academy of Dancing as well as the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. British is recognized for its focus on classical methods and technique. It teaches modern and jazz technique in a summer intensive class for students ages 10 and up. The intensive focuses on building technique while introducing new dance styles.

    • South Side Dance Force focuses on the passion of the individual through dance. The school is led by founder Joselito Castillo and is located in the heart of Kent. Students can take lyrical classes as part of South Side Dance Force’s summer session. The classes are for ages 8 and up, and focus on emotions expressed through a fusion of ballet and jazz.
