What is the purpose of hip?

Hip joints allow for movement of your leg in multiple planes, including forwards and backward (flexion and extension), to the side (abduction and adduction) and rotation.

The hips also bear weight when you are walking, standing or running. This means they are subject to a lot of pressure and stress.

Common hip problems include:

- Arthritis: inflammation and degeneration of the joints

- Dislocation: partial or full displacement of the hip joint

- Fractures: breaks of the hip bone

- Hip bursitis: inflammation of the fluid-filled sacs near the hip joint

- Hip impingement: abnormal pinching of the hip joint

- Labral tears: tears of the cartilage lining the hip joint

- Muscle strains and sprains

- Osteonecrosis: death of bone tissue in the hip joint
