Practice on a regular basis. Set aside time to practice --- whether it is in class or at home --- as repetition will make your steps seem like second nature to you. When you do not have to think so much about the count of each step or movement, you can focus on the expression of the dance as you strive to emote passion and sensitivity in your style.
Add stretching to your routine and allow sufficient practice space. Flexibility will improve almost any form of dance. In disciplines like ballet, stretching is essential to performing the steps correctly. A flexible body will allow you to move through a dance routine effortlessly.
Mix it up! Variety can be greatly beneficial when aiming for more fluid movements. If you are studying tap, take a ballet class. If you are studying hip hop, take a jazz class. Learning to move your body in new and different ways can help you achieve spontaneity and better fluidity in your movements.
Try yoga or pilates. Both yoga and pilates aim to provide a fit mind and body. This whole body approach may help you focus better and at the same time tone and stretch your body --- all of which are beneficial to achieve more fluid dance movements.
