Cast of Cirque Du Soleil Zumanity

Cirque Du Soleil, which means circus of the Sun, is a troop of traveling acrobats founded by Guy Laliberté. It features high energy acrobatics, dancing, music and performance art. Cirque Du Soleil puts on a variety of different shows, each exploring a different theme. The cabaret-style "Zumanity" performance was billed as "the sensual side" of Cirque Du Soleil. It explores themes of sexuality, acceptance and what it means to be beautiful. Zumanity was written by Dominic Champagne and Rene Richard Cyr, with the help of Guy Laliberté.
  1. The Show

    • There are several acts in Zumanity, each consisting of one or more performers. Broadly speaking, each of these acts is either a dance number, an acrobatic act or some sort of performance art. The show's emcee is named Edie, performing under the stage name "The Mistress of Sensuality." The whole cast performs together for two numbers, "Orgy" and "Extravaganza."

    Dance Performers

    • The "Wind" act takes the form of a seductive flamenco dance performed by Marcela De La Vega as "The Queen of the Wind." It is followed by "Wassa," an African tribal dance act by Wassa Coulihaly. It is a response to the performance of the Queen of the Wind. A later dance number, "Two Men," is a tango performed by Jellison and Gabriel Corbin. Felix Cane is the dancer and acrobat of "Dance on TV."

    Acrobatic Performers

    • Julia Kolosova performs aerial acrobatics as a schoolgirl in "Hoops." Valerly Simonenko and Katerina Bazarova are the acrobats in "Hand-2-Hand," where they perform feats of hand balancing. Alan Jones Silva is one of the two aerial acrobats of "Tissus." Anna O'Keefe, playing his muse, is the other. Tissus is a dance performed entirely in the air, representing the pursuit of inspiration.

    Performance Artists

    • "Waterbowl" is performance art exploring sensuality through the metaphor of washing. The contortionists involved in this act are Ulzibayar Chimed, Bolormaa Zorigtkhuyag, Estefania Karaeva and Gyulnar Karaeva. William Hulett plays "Rose Boy," in an act of the same name. Arslan Gusengadzhiev is the extreme contortionist of "Dislocation." Louise Yorath gives a solo erotic performance in "Straps." "Midnight Bath" depicts the romance of lovers taking a bath in milk. The lovers are played by Vanessa Convery and Ed Bohlen. "Dick and Izzy" are the names used by Nicky Dewhurst Shannan Calcutt, playing sex therapists. Their act is a comedy routine, and involves audience participation.
