Cha Cha Slide Directions

The Cha-Cha Slide, created in 1996 by D.J. Mr. C (Casper), was originally introduced as a dance/fitness routine for Bally's Total Fitness gymnasiums around the country. Because of its popularity, however, it soon traveled across the U.S. to invade dance parties at all age-levels. Part of its popularity is due to its catchy tune, but also its easy-to-follow dance instruction that allows for people of all ages and backgrounds to participate.

Instructions

Listen for the dance steps as the song begins. If you are at a public location, there should be others forming around you who may be more familiar with the lyrics. This should aid in being able to anticipate the dance moves.

Perform the dance moves as they are listed in the lyrics. "Slide to the left/right": Extend your right or left foot to the side, while sliding the other foot across to meet it. "Take it back now, y'all": Take two steps backward. "One hop this time": Take a slight hop forward. "Left/right foot let's stomp": Stomp with the designated foot. "Cha cha real smooth": Using your right or left foot, step forward and rock your hips forward. Immediately step back and rock your hips backward. "Criss-cross": Jump up, landing with the legs cross. Jump up again, and return the legs to your sides. "Hands on your knees": Place your hands on your knees and freestyle dance. "Everybody clap your hands": Clap your hands with the beat. "How low can you go?": Freestyle dance, progressively moving towards the floor. "Can you bring it to the top?": Freestyle dance, progressively moving away from the floor. "Reverse reverse!": Jump up and turn, landing facing the opposite direction that you were facing. "Charlie Brown": With one leg in front and one leg in back, shift your weight from back and forth.

Perform the movements to the beat. The dance is so manageable for people because the beat is slow enough to keep up with.
