What Is a Rolling Vine Dance Step?

Some line dance choreographies call for rolling vines. These steps typically take up four counts, with steps on the first three counts. During these three steps, the dancer executes at least a full 360-degree turn. On the final count, there is no actual step. You simply bring your feet back together.

Instructions

    • 1

Stand facing front with your feet slightly apart. If you imagine that the room is a clock, you are facing 12 o'clock.

    • 2

Make a quarter turn to the right and step with your right foot on the first count. You should be facing the 3 o'clock position.

    • 3

Make a half-turn to the right and step with your left foot on the second count. You should be facing the 9 o'clock position.

    • 4

Make another quarter turn to the right and step with your right foot on the third count. You should now be facing 12 o'clock. In some choreographies, this turn is a half-turn so you wind up facing 3 o'clock again.

    • 5

Touch the ball of your left foot to the ground, next to your right foot on count four. In some choreographies, you would follow this right rolling vine with a left rolling vine on counts five to eight. For a left rolling vine, all turns are to the left, and you step left, right, left.
