If the song you are dancing to has words, listen to them. In fact, listen to them several times and print them out for everyone in the group to read if you can. Reflect on the meaning of the song before even setting out for a dance. Talk about what the song means to you with your dance group.
With praise dancing, your choreography is not about showy dance moves that awe the crowd. Your dance moves are supposed to interpret the song and the word of God. Use sign language or other gestures that go with the words of the song.
Use props such as palms (on Palm Sunday) or ribbons for joyous occasions such as Easter or Christmas. These props can add drama to your performance as well as create a stunning visual effect. Wave the palms or your ribbons to show the joy of the holiday or reenact the story.
There are several Bible verses that urges one to fall to his knees (Nehemiah 8:6), lift his hands (Genesis 49:8) and leap (2 Samuel 6:16) in prayer. Use these verses (and find others) as a basis for your choreography.
Feel the music and use your own feelings and thoughts on the music, holiday or selected Bible verse to inspire your dance. Communicate with your partners, but you will begin to feel inspiration within yourself upon reflection. Use your own inspiration (and your groups') to create a solid dance.
