  1. 40 Watt Club

    • The 40 Watt Club is one of the more famous dance clubs in Athens as it was instrumental to the rise in popularity of independent punk rock music. Famous musical acts such as R.E.M., the Indigo Girls and Queens of the Stone Age have played on stage at this venue. Local musicians and popular stand-up comedians have also taken the stage over the years. The club has a large dance floor and couches and tables to use for the times you just want to sit and enjoy the music. In fact, the stage is raised several feet, giving any seat in the venue a good view of the musicians. The club welcomes anyone 18 years old and over. In fact, some shows are marked "all ages," meaning children under the age of 18 can enter the club.

    Level 131

    • Level 131 is divided into two sections. The first is the dance club, which has an industrial design. The large dance floor is open to anyone who wants to dance to the wide range of music played at this club. From hip hop to rock and roll, Level 131 plays the latest songs along with old favorites. Level 131 is also a supporter of the local fraternities and sororities. On Thursday nights, all fraternity and sorority socials can enter the club without paying cover. DJ Mixx plays music on Friday and Saturday nights. Cover charge applies to anyone under the age of 21 (but you must be at least 18 to enter). The second section of Level 131 is the sports bar called The Upper Level. The Upper level has pool tables, video games, and darts for patrons to enjoy. The Upper Level also shows University of Georgia sporting events on its televisions.

    Caledonia Lounge

    • The Caledonia Lounge is located behind the 40 Watt Club. Smaller in size, the Caledonia Lounge provides a more intimate setting where local musicians play on stage. Christmas lights adorn the ceiling of the club, providing a festive atmosphere. Tables and chairs are also provided on the dance floor for the times you enjoy the music without dancing. Caledonia Lounge also has a large outdoor patio where bands sometimes set up. This gives patrons the unique experience of being able to enjoy live music both inside and outside the dance club. Ear plugs are available for 50 cents if the music gets too loud.
