Colleges With Dance Programs

Becoming a professional dancer requires extensive training. The learning experience provides the student with techniques that help improve their dance style and allow them to cross over into other genres of dance. There are many careers that require an education in dance, such as background dancers, professional ballerinas, Broadway dancers, professional choreographers, production assistants and more. There are many colleges and universities that offer dance as a major.

    • The University of Alabama offers a competitive dance program for undergraduate and graduate studies. Recognized as the only accredited dance program in the state of Alabama by the Association of Schools of Dance, the program continues to strive to uphold all professional standards. The students create a production of two dance concerts per semester.

    Arizona State University - Tempe

    • This school focuses on the current dance practices and anticipated future dance techniques. Students participate in over 30 formal concerts and over 20 informal concerts per year. Consideration of acceptance into the program requires an audition.

    Barnard College, Columbia University

    • The degree at Bernard requires completion of 11 core courses. The program has three dance studios consisting of 15 to 18 students per technique class. There are six ballet levels in the dance program.
