With the economy the way it is today people are coming up with non-traditional ways to make money at what they love doing. I am no exception. A few months ago I opted to turn my home garage into a dance studio and I'm loving it! I had gone the traditional route of renting out space before for my dance company but with today's dire real estate market and horrific economy I just wasn't willing to take that chance again. The last thing I needed was to shell out a hefty deposit on a space and pay the expensive rent for a few months only to find out the owner of the building is being foreclosed on. With all this in mind, turning my home garage into a dance studio sounded like a winner to me so I did it.

MAKE SURE GARAGE IS BIG ENOUGH

Basically you want to make sure the space in your garage is big enough for students to at least go across the floor. If it is, and most standard two car garages are, then you're in business.

      CLEAR OUT GARAGE

If you have a lot of "stuff" in your garage that you want or need to keep then you will definitely need to get storage bins or an outside shed to put it all in, otherwise you will find that a lot of it can be thrown away. Storage bins can be stacked neatly in a closet or if you have wall shelving in your garage all the better. Wall Shelving can be hidden very easily with curtains or some sort of nice material.

      PAINT

If your garage walls aren't painted then you will want to paint them. When turning your garage into a dance studio, a couple of coats of paint will make it look more professional. If it's already painted, then it won't hurt to do a touch up job.

PUT IN FLOORS (OR PAINT THEM)

You can opt to put in wood flooring or there are even portable dance floors that can be put in. If either one of these are out of your budget or you just don't want to go through the hassle you can just paint your garage floor with an "epoxy" paint or concrete paint. These paints come in all different colors and even come in kits that have that have everything you need to make your floors shine and look like a dance floor. This process is very inexpensive and it looks good too.

      INSTALL MIRRORS

When turning your garage into a dance studio, you definitely want to make sure you install mirrors. This will give it that dance studio feel. This should probably be the last thing you do. You can do it yourself or have a company come out and do it for you. Once this is done throw up a few dance posters and pictures and voila!! You should be ready for business.
