The Joffrey Ballet School is a world renowned academy with a professional ballet troupe. They offer an ongoing adult class, which means that they allow "drop-ins;" you don't have to be enrolled ahead of time. Classes are affordable, especially when purchased in a package. They have "Absolute Beginner," "Basic Ballet" and "Beginner Ballet" adult classes to ease adults into the demanding discipline of ballet training. There are three more beginner/intermediate levels before the student gets to begin pointe class (which is a thrill as great as graduating from college).

Adagio teaches classical ballet using the Vaganova style of ballet instruction. Adagio offers two tracks of ballet for adults: a "Stay in Shape" class, focusing on building flexibility, stamina and strength, and the traditional, progressive ballet program, 1 class per week. Each beginning, intermediate and adult program has three levels. Pointe instruction is by invitation only. The curriculum is designed around a traditional school year: fall, winter and spring with a summer program and "ballet camp" that is generally for changing classes and moving to different levels. Adagio places students midterm, but does not encourage this. Missed classes cannot be made up or refunded. Adagio had two locations in Virginia, Fairfax and Arlington. Adult students have the option of buying classes in 5, 10 and 15 session blocks
