What are the three things essential to poetry?

1. Language. Poetry is made up of words, so the first essential thing to poetry is language. Poets must choose their words carefully to create the desired effect. They consider everything from the sound of the words to their meaning and connotation.

2. Imagery. Poetry is often used to create images in the reader's mind. Poets use figurative language, such as metaphors and similes, to help readers visualize what they are reading. Imagery can be used to create a mood or atmosphere, tell a story, or simply to paint a picture.

3. Emotion. Poetry is often used to express emotions. Poets use their words to share their feelings and experiences with readers. Poetry can be used to explore a wide range of emotions, from love and joy to sadness and despair.
