Sides began playing the piano at the age of five and quickly showed a remarkable talent for the instrument. He studied at the Juilliard School and the New England Conservatory of Music, where he earned degrees in piano performance and conducting.
Sides has performed as a soloist with major orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He has also collaborated with leading conductors such as James Levine, Seiji Ozawa, and Gustavo Dudamel.
In addition to his work as a performer, Sides is also a respected composer and arranger. His compositions have been performed by the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, the Louisville Orchestra, and the American Composers Orchestra.
Sides is currently on the faculty of the Juilliard School, where he teaches piano and conducting. He is also the artistic director of the David Sides Chamber Music Festival, which takes place each summer in Vermont.
