Read the submission guidelines. Hippocampus Magazine outlines its guidelines on its Submissions page (See References). The online literary magazine is open to memoir, essay, book reviews and interviews. Be sure that your work fits one of the categories and that it meets the desired word count.
Polish your draft. Be sure your draft is error-free when submitting. Have someone else read it to spot errors you could very well overlook. Another tip is to read it aloud.
Double-check your manuscript. Hippocampus Magazine uses a blind reading process to go through submissions. This means that your name should not be on your submitted manuscript. In addition to getting ready a polished, ready-to-publish manuscript, you also must ensure your name or other identifying information is not on the version you are sending to Hippocampus.
Submit your material. Hippocampus Magazine uses an online submission software for accepting and managing submissions. To submit material, you can access the upload feature from the Submissions page. You will choose the appropriate category and upload your work. You also have the option to send a cover letter. The magazine suggests using this area to share information about yourself, as well as state where you heard about the magazine.
Track your submission. You receive confirmation your submission was received. You can also track the progress of your submission from the online submission manager. Hippocampus Magazine states it will report back within six to eight weeks.
