How to Finish a Magazine Collage

An art project that needs little more than a couple of magazines, some glue and a piece of cardboard for backing, magazine collages are often impromptu and spontaneously made. Left on their own, magazine collages will only last a couple of months before some of the pieces start to roll up in the corners and the collage begins to deteriorate. For those special collages that you want to keep around for years to come, apply a finish to protect and preserve the piece.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the magazine collage out on an easy-to-clean surface and make sure all corners and edges of the magazine pieces are flat.

    • 2

Heat the beeswax on low to medium heat in the saucepan until it loses its hard character and becomes liquid.

    • 3

Pour the melted beeswax into the bowl and bring the bowl over to the collage.

    • 4

Dip the paintbrush into the melted beeswax and work it around until it is saturated with the wax.

    • 5

Wipe a bit of the wax off on the edges of the bowl so that it doesnt drip on the way to the collage.

    • 6

Slowly coat the magazine collage with the melted beeswax. Get the wax on the collage as evenly as possibly but pay extra attention to the edges of the magazine photos and pieces.

    • 7

Allow the finished collage to dry in a cool dry place away from any dust or dirt that may get caught in the wax and obscure the collage.

    • 8

Hang or place the collage on the wall or in another place where it will be highly visible.
