Arts Grants for Authors & Writers

Grants are given to writers who show dedication to their craft and mastery of writing. Grants fund projects so writers are able to pursue creative literary expression.
  1. Barbara Deming Memorial Fund

    • Provides grants of $500 to $1,500 to women writers and artists who focus on women, feminism or women's issues. Those eligible work in art, fiction, poetry, and nonfiction. Write to:

    The Arts Writers Grant

    • Offered through the The Creative Capital/Warhol Foundation, these grants are intended to encourage writing that is concerned with contemporary visual art. Grants range from $3,000 to $50,000. Apply at artswriters.org

    The National Endowment for the Arts

    • A resource for grants and fellowships in all of the arts. To search and apply for grants, go to arts.endow.gov.

    PEN American Center's Writer's Fund

    • Grants up to $2,000 are given to professional writers who need emergency funds. Apply at pen.org.

    The Christopher Isherwood Foundation

    • $4,000 grants are given to novelists so that they can continue to pursue research and literary projects. Applications and information is at isherwoodfoundation.org.
